  Welcome to The Midwife Center

The Midwife Center for Birth & Women's Health is southwestern Pennsylvania's only licensed and accredited freestanding birth center offering well woman gynecological care, prenatal care and childbirth in a warm and supportive birth center. Our goal is to provide safe and satisfying care that is personalized to meet the need of the woman and her family. Our staff is guided by the philosophy that a woman should be in control of her own health care, including her birth experience.

Our home-like facility is conveniently located on Penn Avenue in the Strip District. The first floor of our Center houses three themed birth suites, each with its own large bathroom with a Jacuzzi, and our family kitchen. Upstairs is a large waiting room, three exam rooms and administrative offices. Our extensive video and book library is available here as well.

Care at our facility is provided by Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who are registered nurses with additional education in midwifery. As all CNMs our midwives are certified by examination through the American College of Nurse-Midwives or the American College of Nurse-Midwives Certification Council and licensed by the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine.

Holy Family Birth Center is a birth center located in Weslaco, Texas. The birth center, the oldest in Texas, was created in 1982 in response to a lack of prenatal care in the area. TMC’s Clinical Director, Ann McCarthy, CNM volunteered as a nurse at Holy Family Birth Center and was inspired to become a midwife by Diana Jolles, CNM.  This video provides a good introduction to midwifery and birth center care.
